The story centers on the Cassidy family, particularly focusing on Shauna, her sister Carrie, and their brother Bobby. Shauna's marriage to Greg is strained; she desires another child, but Greg is hesitant. Adding to the tension are Shauna's intrusive in-laws, the Freeloaders, who impose themselves on her family life. Despite moving abroad to escape their interference, Shauna finds that distance doesn't deter their meddling.
Carrie, on the other hand, feels overwhelmed by the responsibility of caring for their elderly father, who is often hypochondriacal. She harbors resentment, feeling that the burden should be shared more equally among the siblings.
Bobby's relationship with their father is fraught with tension; their father blames Bobby for the premature death of their mother, leading to a strained and distant connection between them.
As the family prepares for another reunion, the narrative explores whether they can overcome past grievances and rebuild their relationships.
