The story centers on Connie Gifford, a young woman living in an isolated house with her alcoholic father, Crowley Gifford, once a celebrated taxidermist. Something terrible happened in Connie’s past, but she can’t quite remember what—her memory is fragmented, her past foggy.
As the anniversary of a mysterious event approaches, strange occurrences begin: a woman is found dead in a nearby stream, her identity unclear. Connie becomes obsessed with unraveling the truth about the death, her father’s past, and her own lost memories. The deeper she digs, the more sinister and violent the secrets she uncovers become.
