Plot Overview
Protagonist: Flora has been secretly in love with a man for twenty years — but here's the catch: for the last fifteen years, that man has been married to someone else.
Summer in Cornwall: Flora is invited to spend the summer in Cornwall, in “shady lanes and sandy coves.”
Complications:
1. She’ll be staying with her former mother‑in‑law, Belinda, which is awkward given the history.
2. Her ex‑husband (the man she’s loved) shows up with his new wife. So Flora is faced with both the woman who “stole” her husband’s romance and the mother‑in‑law, who might have played a role in that breakup.
Conflict and Secrets: As Flora tries to navigate this trip — the “happy family” facade imposed by the situation — she also uncovers a family secret which may alter her perceptions of all involved, including her ex‑husband, Belinda, and possibly herself.
